Normal timely deep sleep supports life processes in a profound way. It is the night sleep which is able to :
- Conserve the energies of the body.
- Strengthen the ‘Ojas’ the essence of the 7 Dhatus, or in other words, contributes to our immunity.
- Rejuvenate the indriyas connection with the mind and the outside world.
Hence it is the nourisher of life forms like a mother hence called ‘Bhootdhaatri’.
Well does sleeping late in the night, and getting up well beyond sunrise have the same impact?
According to Ayurveda this is the impact of late sleeping:
- Vata aggravation
- Impaired Agni
- Gradually leads to acidity, thyroid dysfunction, hairloss, loss of strength of indriyas.
Hence as human beings we have the free will of choice, but not of its consequences. Since each act is governed by laws of Nature, the more we understand, observe we are able to align.
