Ayurveda works on two aspects:
- To cure the diseased.
- To enhance the health or maintain the health of the healthy individual.
So, to enhance the health of the healthy, Panchkarma can be done. Panchkarma can be done for children, teenagers, young adults, before conception, during pregnancy and for a healthy old age too. In fact, Panchkarma is highly recommended before conception as a way to overcome any genetic disorders in the next generation and for a healthy pregnancy too!
Depending on the season, different Panchkarmas can be performed. They are as follows:
- In sharad ritu/october heat– Virechan and Raktmokshan can be conducted to balance the Pitta, and remove excess pitta.
- In vasant ritu/spring- Vaman Panchkarma can be conducted to balance the Kaph dosha, and remove the excess Kaph. Nasya as a Panchkarma can be done to strengthen the head region.
- In the rainy season or just before rains- Basti Panchkarma (medicated enema) can be done to balance the Vata, the master among Tridoshas. The more the Vata is balanced, the better the stamina to put up during fluctuating environmental conditions.
What are the Benefits of Panchkarma for a healthy person?
- Its like helping the body ‘reset’ to being ‘natural healthy’ again.
- Improves the Agni, which is the seat of all diseases to appear.
- Improves the immunity, by opening up the channels allowing a free flow.
All these Panchkarmas are to be decided and conducted by an Ayurvedic Physician.
